Challenge and Solution
Goodnotes* has its own AI agent, but some users, especially professionals, were already switching between Goodnotes and external tools like ChatGPT. This created a fragmented workflow, while each AI interaction also carried an inference cost for Goodnotes.
Rather than compete for those sessions, we met users inside ChatGPT. The integration turns conversations into editable documents, whiteboards, and diagrams that users can continue working on in Goodnotes, bridging AI exploration and real work while reducing Goodnotes’ own inference cost.
Goodnotes later extended the same workflow to Claude through an MCP connector.
My Role
Product Designer: I owned the design vision proposal and worked closely with engineers and designers on the end-to-end product experience and marketing materials for launching Goodnotes as an MCP connector.
Impact
Expanded Goodnotes beyond the app. Created a new entry point inside ChatGPT.
Reduced friction between AI and creation. Turned conversations into editable Goodnotes artifacts in one step.
Enabled broader access. Available across all Goodnotes plans without using Goodnotes AI credits.
